Cal-a-Vie has been on my list for so long. I’m so in love with the Tuscan feel. There’s nothing more beautiful to me than a mountain backdrop. Cal-a-Vie has that causal luxury vibe that California does so well. When Madeleine showed me her drawing for NBC’s dinner in the (chapel) I sighed a happy dreamy exhale. Yellow is one of the more challenging color to use and my favorite. Madeleine created the perfect table for me. A sprawling delightful floral arrangement with candles hanging above in a beautiful chapel on a hill surrounded by the most beautiful vista. I suddenly wanted to work for NBC so I could join them for dinner. I was able to capture some gorgeous branding photographs of Madeleine as well. Yes. Thank you. More please. That’s my mantra. Delightful corporate events in stunning spaces with super talented vendors? Ok.

I wanted to thank Madeleine for such a fun and collaborative event experience. I loved creating alongside her. We asked her some questions so you could get to know her, too!
Where do you draw inspiration from? I draw inspiration from traveling, nature, film, and fashion. I love pouring over glossy coffee table books with beautiful photography.
What advice do you have for anyone who's looking to work with a floral designer for their event? Study the portfolios of designers whose work you love and select your favorite out of two options. Inquire with your favorite of the two and if it feels like a match based on personality, design perspective, and the kind of person you’d like to spend time collaborating with, hire them. If the consultation process doesn’t match your needs or if it feels like you won’t be a good fit, move onto the other designer. Ultimately, selecting your floral and event designer should feel joyful and exciting.
What would be your dream event to do floral design for? I’d love to create a colorful, multi-day event where I can pick and choose from the most talented floral designers I know and create an event altogether. There is nothing like having a solid design team working toward a gorgeous end result.
What are some floral design color or style trends you're seeing right now? - Smaller guest counts with memorable guest experiences - live music and decadent floral installations - Floral-heavy designs Predictions: - I predict more long tables vs. rounds for event layouts. - Events honoring analogous color schemes with floral in the same color family - think canary yellow, cantaloupe, and orange. - Ceremony sites and reception spaces that have different color schemes but a similar overall concept.
Any advice for people who want to follow their passion and start their own business? Yes! Select a job that allows you to support yourself with the basics while you build your business. Funnel your time and any extra money into your passion. Study the field you want to enter and look for ways you can infuse differentiations into the market with your offering.
Thanks so much Madeline!
